Johnny Depp stated that he was too drugged to hurt his former Amber Heard
The actor’s attorneys attempt to portray Heard as a manipulator for publicity who has been gathering damaging evidence against her husband from the start.
The American actor Johnny Depp explained on Thursday, the third day of his London trial for libel against the British tabloid The Sun, that while he was married to Amber Heard he used drugs so much that “he was in no condition” to hurt her.
Depp, 57, sued the tabloid and its publisher the News Group Newspapers (NGN) for taking for granted in a 2018 article that hit Heard.
The complaint sought to clear his name. But so far the views, which should last three weeks, have revolved around the excesses of the actor, who portrayed himself as a depressed star, with insomnia and drug problems, and admitted to destroying nightclubs and hotel suites throughout the world as she tried to roll and keep a turbulent marriage afloat.
He admitted on Wednesday that he was short-tempered, jealous of Heard’s alleged extramarital affairs, and went on to hit a wall until his knuckles bled.
The 2014-2015 period was the lowest point in his life, he said, and he admitted to having some memory gaps.
“I remember having a lot of uncontrollable pain and spasms,” he said of August 2014 when he was detoxifying with the help of Heard and his doctor on his private island in the Bahamas.
“I did not push or assault her in any way and she certainly was not in a position to do so,” he said. “He was not physically fit to push anyone.”
The couple met in 2011 on the set of “The Rum Diary,” married after Depp’s rehabilitation in 2015, and divorced less than two years later.

But NGN claimed to have “overwhelming evidence” that the actor repeatedly attacked his partner between 2013 and 2016, and his attorney, Sasha Wass, reviewed each episode in detail.
“He tugged at his hair and slapped him, spit in his face while holding a bottle of liquor that he drank from,” Wass said. “And all the while yelling at her that she hated her, she threw her against a ping-pong table that collapsed.”
“It’s not true,” Depp said after each sentence, running his hand through his hair.
On the second day of trial, the newspaper’s defense exposed photographs of Depp’s excess life. Among them is an image taken by Amber Heard, which shows a pint of whiskey, four lines of cocaine and her box of skull pills ready to consume at 13:37 PM.
Heard snapped the photo at his Los Angeles home in 2013, the day Depp was filming a documentary about Keith Richards, shortly before he and the actress had another discussion about the actor’s drug and alcohol use.
